We have joined the ‘Service with Respect’ campaign, run by the Institute of Customer Service. Our support of the campaign demonstrates our commitment to supporting our staff against hostility and abuse, as well as ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all front-line workers.

With nearly 80% of the UK’s workforce working in customer-facing roles, mounting abuse is affecting staff across every sector – from retail to public services, financial institutions to our public transport networks.

The principles of the ‘Service with Respect’ campaign are:

  • Government needs to strengthen the sanctions against those that abuse staff – and law enforcement has to treat it seriously.

  • Employers are taking their part in training and supporting colleagues to deal with some of these issues, but they need support from the law.

  • On occasions as customers, we need to adjust our expectations and behaviour in support of service professionals.
