The crucial role that the road haulage industry plays in the UK has rarely been more evident. The unique set of challenges that it continues to face in keeping the country supplied throughout this unprecedented period are complex and changing from one week to the next.

As the country eases out of lockdown and some of the restrictions on day-to-day, commercial life are lifted, many of the issues that road transport companies face are similar to those confronting other employers: How to manage operations in a way that is safe for their staff, customers and the wider public; when to return any furloughed workers; managing those employees who can work from home, while accommodating the needs of those who need to remain isolated, for whatever reason.

At the same time, the haulage industry has its own, unique set of challenges to overcome. As lockdowns are lifted, operational guidance can change rapidly and may vary from one region of the UK to another, let alone across international borders.

As well as the additional health and safety issues to contend with, road transport operators have to remain compliant with numerous existing regulations and developments, such as changes in approach for procedures like an interview under caution.

We are working with our long-term legal partner Stephensons to deliver this webinar, which will provide an essential insight for anyone in the insurance industry with clients working in road transportation.

Like ARAG, Stephensons has a long history of expertise in serving the haulage industry and will be presenting their thoughts on recent legal developments affecting the sector and the issues that transportation firms face, as the rest of the country starts to get moving again.
