On the subject of motor claims and more specifically, recovering replacement vehicle hire costs, this article was posted on the Litigation futures website.

In brief it is an account of an insurance customer being duped by a claims management company which he contacted through a google search following an accident in snowy conditions. The customer was seeking the use of a courtesy car and thought he had contacted his own insurer. Unfortunately he was the victim of a spoof advert. The claims management company referred the customer to a car hire business which supplied a car subject to a credit hire agreement which was not adequately explained to the customer. The agreement was subsequently held to be unenforceable against the customer as the car had been provided “as a consequence of misrepresentation”. I would imagine the situation being very stressful for the claimant.
