Improving Access to Justice. Driving Social Mobility.
ARAG is partnering with the Purpose Coalition to raise awareness of legal expenses insurance - we have launched the Insuring Justice – Social Impact report to highlight ways to improve social mobility and access to justice for those across the UK.
What is the Purpose Coalition?
The Purpose Coalition is a non-partisan organisation based in Westminster. It connects business leaders, Parliament and public sector organisations to develop solutions that boost opportunity and social mobility.
Led by former Cabinet Minister, Justine Greening, the Coalition brings national focus to key challenges including access to justice, education and economic growth.
Why it matters
Access to justice is essential for social mobility.
Unresolved legal problems can hold back families and small businesses, limiting opportunity and slowing economic progress.
Across the UK, organisations are working to address this challenge, including law centres, charities and legal professionals. However, these efforts are often not well connected, and awareness of legal expenses insurance remains low.

Legal aid is limited, and many working families and small businesses cannot afford private legal support. By the time help is found, the situation has often become more complex, more costly and harder to resolve.
At ARAG, our purpose is rooted in a simple belief. Access to justice should not depend on wealth or on knowing how the system works. For many years, we have focused on early legal support – helping people understand their rights and options at the outset, rather than only stepping in once a dispute has escalated.
ARAG's role
As a leading provider of legal expenses insurance in the UK, ARAG is working with the Purpose Coalition to:
- Increase awareness of legal expenses insurance
- Strengthen the connection between access to justice and social mobility
- Ensure the sector has a stronger voice in national policy discussions
- Support solutions that help individuals and businesses access legal support
Through the Insuring Justice project, we are helping to highlight the role legal expenses insurance plays in improving access to legal advice and reducing barriers to justice.
