Employment dispute scenario

Our insured worked for an office supplies company for several years. She discovered a less experienced male colleague was paid more and raised an equal pay grievance. During this, the company had a downturn and made her redundant. She believed this was due to her grievance and claimed unfair selection.

We appointed a specialist solicitor. Before the Employment Tribunal hearing, the employer settled for £9,400 plus a reference. ARAG paid £2,500 in legal fees.

Contract dispute scenario

Our insured faced a high-value dispute after buying a house, discovering significant damp and water damage not identified beforehand. The claim was against both the sellers and the surveyor who prepared the Homebuyer’s Report. We appointed solicitors, but as neither party made offers, proceedings were issued. After defences were received, a three-way mediation took place. A settlement was reached, with damages split 75% by the surveyor’s insurers and 25% by the sellers.

Tax protection scenario

Our insured received a letter from HM Revenue & Customs stating that they intended to make an enquiry into our insured’s personal tax return for the previous year. Our insured contacted us and we appointed a tax consultant to represent him and negotiate on his behalf. After extensive investigation, HMRC confirmed that the tax return was in order with appropriate tax paid.

We settled the tax consultant’s invoice for £3,500.
