Law Society Roundtable
ARAG are partnering with the Law Society to host a roundtable event focused on clinical negligence in women’s health in October.
Healthcare in the UK has long failed women. A recent parliamentary report even used the term medical misogyny to describe the systemic issues in women’s reproductive health.
From ignored symptoms to misdiagnoses and the gender pain gap, poor outcomes for women are now widely recognised—something clinical negligence experts have known for years.
High-profile maternity scandals and inquiries have brought national attention to the issue, but has it led to real change?

This roundtable gathers patient care and legal experts to explore the ongoing challenges in this vital area, such as:
- Are clinical negligence practitioners seeing signs of any improvement in women’s healthcare and outcomes?
- Has there been a substantive change in how NHS Resolution responds to claims and is it making a difference to their cost and duration?
- Have reforms proposed by the previous government had any impact on women’s health and maternity care and what could this government do to improve things?
- What are the challenges for funding cases and what is the prognosis for costs?
- While more women lawyers work in clinical negligence it seems those acting as medical experts are disproportionately male. Does this make a difference?
Following the event, ARAG will publish a summary of the insights shared, along with video highlights and an article offering deeper analysis and reflections from the roundtable.
