We’re thrilled to be supporting the UK Women in Insurance Summit that is being hosted by Insurance Business next week, in Canary Wharf, and looking forward to the fascinating line-up of speakers and panel discussions in what looks like a packed and thought-provoking agenda.

The sessions will cover a wide range of subjects from key market trends to more women-specific issues such as health taboos and career progression into leadership roles still dominated by men.

The day kicks off with a keynote speech from Claire Lomas MBE (AKA The Bionic Woman) who has an inspirational story to tell about overcoming huge obstacles and how to build resilience to help cope with more mundane, day-to-day challenges.

Some of those attending will have worked in the industry long enough to remember the time before such events existed, when they weren’t deemed necessary. Hopefully, other, younger attendees will still be working in insurance when they really aren’t.

It may be a cliché to say that womens’ particiation in the world of insurance has come a long way, but even a cursory look at the data and occasional headlines will tell us we’ve still got a fair distance to go.

Events like this summit that bring women (and some men!) together to highlight key issues but also shine a light on the demonstrable benefits that having a more diverse and representative workforce brings, certainly keep us moving in the right direction.

The UK event is just one of eight summits held in five countries around the world. If you’re interested in attending, registration is open until the day of the event, Thursday, November 30.
